Victor Hicks

Victor G. Hicks is an accomplished educator, visionary entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion in the tech world. He is best known as the founder and owner of “Coding with Culture,” an organization committed to building a “Kindergarten through HBCU” pathway in computational and design thinking. Through this groundbreaking initiative, Victor aims to empower students from all backgrounds with coding skills while celebrating the rich heritage and history of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Victor’s journey into computer science education began during his time as an educator, where he spent 14 years making a profound impact on the lives of his students. His transition to teaching computer science at Mary Lin Elementary School in Atlanta marked the beginning of a transformative mission to bridge the digital divide and provide equitable access to technology education.

As a proud alumnus of both Fisk University and Clark Atlanta University, Victor’s love and passion for HBCU history and culture were deeply ingrained in his academic journey. These formative experiences inspired him to create “Coding with Culture,” a platform that celebrates the unique contributions of HBCUs while preparing the next generation of technologists for successful careers.

Beyond his dedication to education, Victor G. Hicks has been recognized for his exceptional work and contributions. He was featured in Forbes Magazine, which highlighted his groundbreaking efforts in providing equity in computer science and STEM fields. His commitment to education excellence earned him the prestigious title of “InspirEdu’s Teacher of the Year,” a testament to his exemplary dedication to teaching and empowering students.

Furthermore, Victor’s expertise and passion have been sought after in various educational events and conferences. He presented at ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education), where he shared his innovative approach to integrating technology into the classroom. Additionally, he served as a Thought Leader at IDEA (Illinois Digital Educators Association) IDEACon event, where he inspired educators with his insights into creating inclusive learning environments.

In addition to being the founder and owner of “Coding with Culture,” Victor serves on the Board of Directors for two remarkable organizations: “Life is an 8 Count” and Decatur Makers. At Decatur Makers, he holds the esteemed position of chairperson of the Youth Outreach Committee, further demonstrating his dedication to empowering young minds through technology and innovation.
